A Rockin’ Guide to London

I fell in love with London last year during my three-month program with Condé Nast College. I had the incredible opportunity to live the London life, which as a writer, felt like a dream. London is a thrilling place, and its sights and sounds instantly fill your mind with creative energy…it’s no wonder that some of most celebrated musical artists have come from this region. One of those notable artists is Pink Floyd, and today The Victoria and Albert Museum will be launching an exhibit celebrating their musical journey – a must-visit exhibit for both music buffs and rock fans. From the Swinging 60’s to today’s chart topping bands, London has long been a hub for world-class musical talent. So, pack your bags and get ready to experience the rhythm and beat of the UK’s capital with my take on a London guide for music lovers.

Explore

After much anticipation, The Victoria and Albert Museum is opening its doors to The Pink Floyd Exhibit: Their Mortal Remains. Immerse yourself in a full-sensory experience that will take you through the extraordinary world of one of rock’s most celebrated and timeless bands of all time. The V&A is a spectacular place in and of itself – put Pink Floyd into the mix and prepare yourself for something amazing. Catch this exhibit until October 1, 2017.

Stroll

Head over to vibrant Carnaby Street and wander through the birthplace of Swinging London. This iconic style destination is filled with fantastic shops, lively bars, and an electric atmosphere that has lasted for several decades. Be sure to make a stop at Liberty London – a beautiful 142-year-old department store that’s filled with eclectic attire. Don’t miss the gorgeous blooms placed in front of their main entrance that are beyond Instagram worthy.

Dine

Tucked away behind Regent Street is 23 Heddon Street – the spot where David Bowie shot his famous Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars album cover. Here, you’ll also find an array of outstanding restaurants, including Gordon Ramsay’s Heddon Street Kitchen. Tip: If you’re looking treat yourself to a fish and chips dish, have it here – it is out of this world delicious.

Discover

One of the most recognizable photos of one of the most famous bands of all time was shot in London. You know, the one of The Beatles crossing the street? Let your inner rock star dreams come true and walk in George, Ringo, Paul, and John’s steps on Abbey Road. The legendary Abbey Road Studios is also located here…yep, the studios where The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Queen all recoded music. No big deal.

Enjoy

Shoreditch was one of my favourite spots to explore during my time in London last fall. The atmosphere is special here and you can feel the musical and artistic roots of London within these graffiti-lined streets. Each Sunday Shoreditch plays host to the Sunday Up Market, which I visited a few times. Each time I ventured through this market I was treated to live music preformed by artists hanging out throughout the streets. I loved it! There are also endless unique vendors selling basically everything at the Sunday Up Market – and if you get lucky, you can snag yourself some cool music memorabilia to take back home as a reminder of your music-fueled London adventure.
