October 2021 #InsideEdmonton Feature

As the Editor at Large for NextHome Edmonton’s New Home and Condo Guide, I have the fabulous task of writing a monthly feature for the magazine that puts the focus on local. It’s one of my favourite things to write, and I am always so impressed with the events and can’t-miss spots YEG has to offer – and it’s something I want to share even more. I’ll be posting some highlights from my features on this blog, so keep an eye on this space for some must-see and do things in Edmonton (and area!). Since Halloween is my favourite holiday, I thought it would be fitting to get this party started with the October Edition of #InsideEdmonton:

WHAT’S HAPPENING: Spooky season is here! Our city always delivers on a ghoulishly good time in October, but one of my favourite Halloween events is just north of Edmonton at Prairie Gardens Adventure Farm. Take a trip to the popular Bon Accord destination and visit the annual Haunted Pumpkin Festival – now in its 27th year! This family-friendly celebration is on every weekend this month, and it’s filled with both fall and Halloween delights. Take a stroll through ghost town with Ghost Walks to the Elm Street Cemetery, or put your bravest foot forward at the Haunted Farm House! If haunts aren’t your thing, there’s still plenty to enjoy – like pumpkin displays, an indoor heated greenhouse pumpkin patch (for those chilly evenings!) and the Kompany Family Theatre Pumpkin Corny-val, which brings ghost stories, pumpkin bowling, races and juggling to the festival line-up this year. And, of course, don’t miss the renowned Pumpkin Cannon! Tickets and information at prairiegardens.org

The Haunts + Boo(ze)

Whether you’re interested in the tricks or the treats, you’re sure to be impressed with this line-up of events. Choose your poison wisely…

DARK

Something wicked is taking over Fort Edmonton Park for 13 nights in October…and you won’t want to miss it! Three terror-filled haunts await you this year – each with a unique & sinister story. Devilishly good eats from local food trucks and tipsy potions are available on-site, or choose an eerie virtual event. fortedmontonpark.ca

Ghost Tours

Learn about some of our city’s darkest history while exploring the streets during this walking ghost tour. Hear true stories from the past about hauntings, murders and mysteries at some of Edmonton’s most popular districts – including Old Strathcona, UofA, the High-Level Bridge and more. edmontonghosttours.com

Deadmonton

On until November 7, this spine-chilling destination brings an immersive, heart-racing experience to those who dare to enter. This year’s themes include Warped – a twisted journey through time, space and reality; and Dusk: Rise of the Dead – a creepy New Orleans inspired outdoor cemetery. deadmontonhouse.com

Edmonton Craft Beer Festival

Boozy – but hold the spooky! From October 22-23, the Expo Centre is hosting a beer, spirit and food festival. Discover 500+ beers from over 100 breweries, take in a seminar to learn about some great food & beer pairings, explore the evolving craft spirit industry, and so much more! albertabeerfestivals.com
